Despite my political views concerning Kirk's, this is just sad. Nobody in this country deserves death, ESPECIALLY Kirk.
Gun violence not only ends the victim's life, but destroys their family, friends, and loved ones. Quite frankly, I am deeply ashamed for the people that make a mockery of his death and find it absurd that those who claim to stand against gun violence yet praise the death of someone just with opposing political views really devalues what several people and I wish to work for, but hoping that this situation will go away will not prevent future shootings. I didn't love the guy, but Kirk was still a father and a husband, and gun violence ripped him from the arms of his wife and children.
Scapegoating democrats or specific minorities as supporters or contributors to his assassination and/or gun violence in general is a poor judgement. After all, a senator from Minnesota and her husband were shot and killed in their own homes driven by a man with far-right views. It would also be poor judgement to say that all right leaning people support political violence---They do not.
Some people are driven by ambitions that they cannot control and can lead to tragedies like this; most people would (and should) take it to social media or create a verbal argument rather than ending someone's life. That's not how you get your points across. We are America, we fought for the freedom to say what we wanted, we did not fight just so people can kill others who disagree with them.
We should still be able to have the second amendment, but measures must be taken to prevent losing people like Charlie Kirk, Fletcher and Harper (the two children from the Minnesota shooting), and Melissa Hortman (democratic senator) and her husband Mark Hortman. Thoughts and prayers can still be encouraged and uplift some spirits after losses, but that alone won't bring nation-wide issues like gun violence down. We need to do something about it together.
...are we not a United nation?
