Several Christopher Columbus statues were torn down, often during 2020 protests against racial inequality, due to the explorer's association with genocide and enslavement. While some were toppled by protesters in acts of protest, many others were removed by city officials and placed into storage or relocated to museums.

In October 2020, protesters toppled a statue of Abraham Lincoln in the city's South Park Blocks. The protest, organized as an "Indigenous Peoples Day of Rage," also saw a statue of Theodore Roosevelt torn down. In 2024, the city announced plans to reinstall the statue in the summer of 2025.
